“Tom, remember the small village where our car broke down on your first visit here—all of that is gone…”
That is a message our CEO & Founder Tom Dannatt received this afternoon from Kshitiz Basnet, Street Child Nepal Country Director and leader of Street Child’s 2015-17 Nepal earthquake response.
Just before 9 a.m. on August 26, 2026, an unimaginable flash flood ripped through Central Nepal—like a tsunami, washing away entire villages, homes, roads and schools. It was most likely caused by an earthquake and an avalanche.
The only thing that is certain right now is the destruction, and attendant suffering, is gigantic.
Many of the worst hit areas are places Street Child knows like the back of our hand, and cares for immensely.
In the years after the 2015 earthquake, we built 75 schools, many in extraordinary locations, around the mountains of Rasuwa and Nuwakot Districts—the epicentre of today’s disaster.
Right now, our teams are mobilising to stand again with these communities.
Right now, we are launching an emergency appeal: and we urgently ask you for support.
We have the skills, the local knowledge and the passion. With your support, together we can make an incredible difference for these communities in their latest hour of incredible need.
