As many of you will have seen on the news, last night over 1,000 Afghans went to bed in Paktika Province, towards the Pakistan border, never to see the light of this morning - as Afghanistan's largest earthquake in decades ripped through the Province.
1000's more are injured, they have lost their homes and more. The full extent of the damage remains unclear as access to the region remains difficult and estimated numbers are still rising.
Street Child has worked on and off in Paktika Province for years, most recently in Winter 20/21.
We are urgently reassembling our team and connecting with our networks in the Province to launch a significant humanitarian response. As ever, we will focus on actions that make the biggest difference for children.
Many parts of the worst affected districts are remote and have minimal international charity presence. A team of senior Street Child Afghanistan staff have been mobilised and will arrive tomorrow. We are already coordinating closely with the UN.
This response is desperately needed and will make a substantial difference in a country which we all know is already suffering immensely, and has been for so long.
If you have been moved by this terrible news and would like to make a gift, 100% of which will be used as quickly and powerfully as possible to respond to this specific disaster, please donate to our Afghanistan appeal page.
All donations to the Afghanistan Emergency Appeal for the rest of June will be restricted the earthquake response.
We will post further updates via our social media pages throughout the coming days.
