Street Child chosen as charity for The Times and The Sunday Times Christmas Appeal

We are so excited to share this incredible update with you! Street Child has been chosen as the international charity to be supported by The Times and The Sunday Times Christmas Appeal this year, alongside two domestic charities.

We feel honoured and thrilled in equal measure to have been awarded this highly coveted and competitive opportunity. Above all, we are incredibly excited about the opportunity to tell the stories of our brilliant work and the children we support to the readership of The Times. We also hope that whenever Street Child secures these headline moments, everyone who has been part of our journey and supported us to this point feels some pride and excitement too—because we have only achieved what we have thanks to your support.

What this all means is that incredible, award-winning journalists from both newspapers have been visiting our programmes in various countries. From November to January, stories about our work will be published across digital and print editions of The Times and The Sunday Times, raising vital funds and awareness about Street Child’s work to see all children safe, in school, and learning. This will include stories of children associated with armed groups in North East Nigeria, children who continue to face challenges in Sierra Leone, and those in Ukraine who are living with the threat of war.

If we’re being honest with you, the appeal couldn’t come at a better time. More and more children around the world are being denied their basic right to education due to conflict, climate-related disasters, and cost of living. The UN estimates that 72 million crisis-affected children are currently out of school. Funds raised through this appeal will have a life-changing impact for children and their families who need it most.

It gets better. All donations to Street Child through The Times and The Sunday Times, up to a total of £225,000, will be generously matched by From Babies with Love, Boodles, and an anonymous donor, doubling the impact.

Where the money goes

All funds donated to the appeal will support Street Child’s work globally to help the most marginalised children around the world stay safe and access life-changing education—they will not be tied to any particular country or context.

These are the indicative prices that will feature throughout The Times Appeal:

  • £10 could provide a learning kit, including basic stationary and textbooks, for a child living in the Boko Haram stronghold of North East Nigeria.

  • £40 could provide sports kit, like footballs and nets, for 100 children fleeing conflict in Mozambique.

  • £75 could buy warm clothing and basic supplies for a family in Ukraine who have fled their home.

  • £100 could send a primary school girl in Afghanistan to school for a year.

  • £500 could pay for a teacher in a refugee camp in Uganda for a term.

  • £1,500 could construct a classroom in rural Sierra Leone
