Rapid Response: Supporting Morocco and Libya
Rapid Response
We want to assure you that funds received up to 14th September at 9am will be dedicated to the Morocco response. However, moving forward, contributions will be shared across both contexts, unless you specifically designate your gift for one of these situations. If you wish to allocate your donation exclusively to either Morocco or Libya, please write either "Morocco" or "Libya" in the reference box when making your gift.

More than 2,000 people have been killed in Morocco following a powerful earthquake. Children and their families are in desperate need of assistance. If you are looking for ways to help, donate today to Street Child's emergency fund for Morocco. We will ensure 100% of all donations received are passed on to highly effective local organisations who are responding on the ground.
Through our networks we already know a number of local Moroccan NGOs and are also studying the situation on the ground to see which local organisations are highly effective in this emergency. This is identical to our starting point when disasters hit Ukraine, Turkey and Syria, and from where we have gone on to make enormous impact by supporting excellent local action.
Catastrophic flooding that has flattened entire communities in Libya, thousands of people missing, and a mounting death toll (local authorities placing current estimates at 20,000). Very few international organisations have a presence in Libya. However, Street Child has been actively preparing for months to initiate work there this Autumn as part of our flagship initiative, 'Elevating Local Leadership in Emergencies' (ELLIE), which is backed by the US Government (USAID) and spans over 30 countries. The groundwork we've laid for ELLIE in Libya gives us a solid platform to immediately support effective local NGOs in response to this crisis, as has always been our approach.
Our response will focus on ensuring immediate needs are met (shelter, food, clean water) and working to protect those children who have suddenly lost one or both parents in this disaster.
